Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 4: Maa Kushmanda Puja Vidhi, Vrat and Significance
Discover the authentic rituals, Malpua vrat rules and the Heart Chakra benefits for Day 4 of Navratri 2026.

While the first three days of Navratri are heavily focused on tearing down fear, removing obstacles and clearing out negativity, Day 4 shifts entirely toward creation. Sunday, March 22, 2026, is dedicated to Maa Kushmanda, the ultimate creator of the universe. This is the day to create new life, new wealth and new emotional energy in your home.
The Form of the Day: Maa Kushmanda
Maa Kushmanda gets her beautiful name from the very act of universal creation. "Ku" means little, "Ushma" means warmth or energy and "Anda" means cosmic egg. She is the divine being who produced the cosmic egg and brought warmth into absolute darkness.
She is depicted with a highly radiant, golden complexion. To honor her bright life-giving aura, the most auspicious colors to wear during her puja are Green or Orange, which represent natural growth and solar brilliance.
Step-by-Step Puja Vidhi
The fourth day demands deep devotion and specific offerings. Make sure to always check the local panchang to sync your morning puja timings with the most auspicious window of the day.
Offer Hibiscus: Place an idol or image of Maa Kushmanda on your clean altar. Decorate it by offering red flowers, specifically red Hibiscus, which channel her vibrant energy.
Light Camphor: While you can use ghee, lighting camphor (Kapur) on Day 4 is very auspicious. It symbolises the burning away of the ego to embrace pure divine light.
Offer Pumpkin: If possible, place a fresh whole pumpkin near the altar. It is her absolute favourite earthly offering and represents the Anda (cosmic egg).
Chant the Text: Day 4 holds special cosmic weight. Sitting quietly to chant the Durga Saptashati (the 700 verses praising the Goddess) is one of the most powerful practices for this specific day.
But the real blessing of her worship comes from a very specific, sweet offering.
Vrat Vidhi & Bhog
During your fast on Day 4, maintain a completely Sattvic diet. The most highly recommended Bhog (food offering) for Maa Kushmanda is Malpua.
Malpua is a sweet, traditional Indian pancake. Offering fresh Malpua to the Goddess and then distributing it among family members is believed to dramatically improve intellect, sharpen decision-making skills and naturally aid in physical digestion.
Mantra & Aarti
While offering the red hibiscus and the Malpua, recite her primary mantra 108 times using a rosary to activate her creative power within you:
Om Devi Kushmandayai Namah
(Meaning: I bow to the Divine Goddess Kushmanda)
Spiritual Significance: The Heart Chakra
Maa Kushmanda isn't just an external deity, she lives within us. Spiritually, she governs the Anahata (Heart) Chakra, located in the center of the chest. Worshipping her on the fourth day opens the heart to unconditional love, compassion and kindness.
In astrology, she is known to reside perfectly in the inner core of the Sun. She actively provides Surya (the Sun God) with his radiant energy and controls the entire solar system's rhythm. Balancing her energy inside you is the ultimate practice of emotional and physical health.
The Ancient Tale
Before time existed, there was no earth, no sun, no planets and no life. The universe was a silent, terrifying, non-existent dark void. Within this absolute emptiness, Maa Kushmanda appeared. She simply opened her eyes and offered a soft, radiant divine smile.
That mere smile was so powerful and warm that it instantly created the Hiranyagarbha (the Cosmic Egg), filling the universe with light, energy and the building blocks of life.
